AHA Renewal Serum is a clarifying formula with an alpha hydroxy acid that gently but thoroughly exfoliates, and hydrators to reduce the visible signs of ageing and promote brighter, firmer and more radiant skin.

Lactic acid (8%) removes dead skin layers, speeds cell turnover, reduces the appearance of discolouration and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Allantoin, sodium hyaluronate and vitamin B5 hydrate, while green tea and arnica soothe the skin.

Directions

Twist pump left to open and right to close. Apply 1-2 pumps in the evening after cleansing and gently massage into face, neck and décolleté in an upward motion. Begin using this formula two nights per week and increase frequency as tolerated. Follow with appropriate AlumierMD moisturiser.

Caution: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, eyelids and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children.

Sunburn Alert: This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Use a sunscreen and limit exposure while using this product and for a week after discontinuation.

Ingredients

8% Lactic Acid: Naturally found in milk and part of the alpha hydroxy acid family (AHA), lactic acid is biosynthesized for cosmetic formulations. It exfoliates cellular debris and enhances cell turnover to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Arnica: Extracted from the flower heads of the arnica montana plant, arnica has soothing properties.

Green Tea: Packed with antioxidants called polyphenols, specifically catechins, green tea protects skin from free radicals caused by the sun’s rays and pollution.

Allantoin: Extracted from the comfrey plant, allantoin increases water content in the skin and enhances exfoliation, improving skin smoothness.

Vitamin B5: Also referred to as pantothenic acid or panthenol, vitamin B5 acts as a humectant, locking in moisture to hydrate skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate: A form of hyaluronic acid that hydrates by drawing water into the outer layers from deep within the skin. It holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, making skin plumper, softer and smoother.

[Skin Results] The images above show a before and after picture spaced only 6 weeks apart of a beautiful client that came into me for a skin consultation with specific skin concerns of inflammation and an impaired barrier, having consultations previously and after trialling an array of recommended products she unfortunately wasn’t seeing the results she had hoped for. We had in depth consultation and stripped back all of the existing skincare products she was currently using. [Neck & Décolletage] The neck and décolletage is an area of concern for many of my clients, when it comes to skincare were nearly all guilty of neglecting these delicate areas and it’s one of the main areas that will experience ageing and lax skin first. As the delicate skin is much thinner on the neck and décolletage it also has less oil glands than that of the face resulting in the skin ageing in this area at a visibly faster pace. Treat your neck & décolletage with the same TLC as your face, incorporating your cleanse, exfoliation, antioxidants, serums, masks and that all important SPF every day. You can also incorporate your PM routine down onto the neck, if your using a retinol gently does it as the skin is thinner so a small amount at a low concentration to avoid any irritation then lots of hydration. When it comes to treatments for the neck area a neck firming cream isn’t going to solve every concern unfortunately, yes they can help to smooth the texture of the skin, hydrate and plump but they won’t perform miracles. The best part of this job is when clients tell me how happy they are with the visible changes they begin to see with their skin after a few weeks or months of starting on a personalised skincare routine and in clinic treatments. [Skin cell turnover] The average adult skin cell turnover is between 25-28 days but as we age this natural process of cell desquamation and renewal slows down dramatically, meaning our complexion can look dull and the tone and texture, uneven and rough to the touch. A common concern I hear from a lot of my clients is that they feel there skin looks dull and that the texture isn’t soft and supple as it used to be. Adding in a chemical exfoliant or a suitable type of Retinoid to your skin care routine can make the world of visible difference to your skin and it’s overall health. Exfoliation helps to remove the matured cells sitting on the surface of the outer most part of our epidermis, leaving the skin smoother, brighter and more youthful. I think most of us at this point have heard of the most talked about anti ageing, buzz ingredient on the block, I’m of course talking about Vitamin A otherwise known as Retoinic acid, Retinol, Retinaldehyde, Retinol Palmitate etc, lots of different forms that are formulated and tolerated by the skin differently. This buzz ingredient speeds up our cell turnover but has another whole host of skin benefits another post on that one later. [A little trip] We will be out of office from Friday 1st October and back as usual Wednesday 6th. I will be taking a little trip across the pond to the UK to do some training on new treatments coming to the clinic very soon. [Seasonal Skincare] As the leaves are changing so should our skincare. Your skin changes multiple times daily but as we head into the cooler months skin changes can become more visible and apparent. As the temperature drops outside, we crank up the heating inside which leads to low humidity. [Skin Progression] Swipe left ⬅️ I wanted to share with you some progression images of my beautiful client Holly and her skin journey so far since she stepped into the clinic studio around six weeks ago. Holly had been experiencing ongoing cystic acne breakouts which were painful to the touch, her skin was dehydrated, sensitised and her epidermal barrier was impaired. As always the main focus of the treatment plan was to begin with nurture and repair to strengthen and rebuild the skin barrier back to its full optimum health. A full prescriptive skincare routine was devised with products and ingredients specifically tailored to Holly’s individual skin needs along with an in clinic treatment plan. We still have a long way to go but already with Holly’s consistency with her home-care routine and only 2 in clinic treatments so far, it’s just a little under 6 weeks and already the results speak for themselves. There is no quick fix or overnight miracle formula when treating specific skin concerns, it is a process that requires consistency, patience and education. [Skin Hydration] To hydrate something means to increase its water content, when talking about skin hydration it means increasing the amount of water within the skin cells. The skin has its own natural moisture factor which not only hydrates but provides a barrier to prevent Trans epidermal water loss,but during the summer months there are lots of contributing factors that can strip our skin of its (NMF). These can include a rise in temperature and humidity, air conditioning, UV exposure, chlorine and the fact that we sweat much more in the hotter months. Our skin can change daily not only seasonally so it’s important to change up your skin routine as our skin needs change. Ensuring we drink the recommended amount of water plus more is also key to help keep the skin hydrated and healthy along with our ingredients and products. Avoid stripping cleansers and choose a gentle ph balanced alternative, add in ingredients like hyluronic acid, poly glutamic acid, Aloe, antioxidants, gluconolactone and ceramides to give that extra boost of hydration and lock in those lipids. As we’re exposed to more UV exposure in the summer months our skin can appear dry and flaky as a build of excessive keritenisation can occur so exfoliating the skin is essential and I’m talking about your whole body not just our faces. I’m a huge fan of facial mists all year round, it’s not only refreshing on those hot days but they contain hydrating ingredients like humectants to draw in that extra hydration and lock in the moisture so our skin is left feeling refreshed, hydrated and plumped. [Vitamin C] Vitamin C is an ingredient you will hear about a lot in the world of skincare. It is a derivative of L absorbic acid and has a whole host of benefits to the skin which include, • A potent antioxidant that protects our skin cells from environmental, sun damage and other free radicals. • Protects existing collagen and increases collagen synthesis. • Aids wound healing. • Helps to protect against UV damage. • Evens out skin tone and helps to reduce hyperpigmentation. • Brightens the complexion and reduces inflammation to strengthen and help to rebuild the skins barrier function. L absorbic acid is the active form that the skin cell utilises but it can also cause irritation in some skin like your sensitive/ sensitised or dry skin types. It’s an unstable molecule which oxidises quickly when it comes into contact with light which means the way it’s formulated and packaged is key when talking about effectiveness. With so much hype around percentages, there is a misconception that a higher percentage means a better more effective product (wrong). Studies show that L absorbic acid is effective in percentages between 10-20 percent meaning that anything above means it’s neither any more beneficial or will cause unnecessary irritation. Just because L absorbic acid has had the most research and clinical studies carried out on effectiveness doesn’t mean that the vitamin C derivative is not effective because it is. There is much less irritating derivatives like Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate that are more easily tolerated by certain skin and come with the same benefits as L absorbic acid. Vitamin C (L Absorbic acid) is a firm favourite of mine when looking for a reliable antioxidant in my skin care routine but there are so many other fantastic antioxidants and skin ingredients out there that have their own antioxidant properties, increased permeability and are a more so to speak gentle alternative for those that find L absorbic acid a little bit too irritating for their skin. #L absorbic acid# vitamin c#antioxidants# skinhealth#passionateaboutskinhealth# Alumiermd#oceanskinclinicgalway 🍊

[Bridal skin preparation] It was a busy week with bridal consultations last week here at Oceanskin clinic. When preparing your skin for the big day we want to achieve the best results so your skin is the best it can be. Time is key to achieving the desired results and ensuring you are glowing from within when your big day arrives. Whether we are treating Pigmentation, Redness or tone and textural issues there is a variety of in clinic treatments to choose from but we need to bare in mind that some of these treatments are required to be performed a month apart and you may need anywhere from three to six treatments to achieve the desired results. When you begin your wedding preparations make sure to put your skin at the top of the list as the results will be worth the while when the big day arrives. Giving yourself a year in advance of the big day to seven months minimum is an ideal time frame to achieve your best skin with the results you are aiming for.
